Raptors at Jenner Headlands

Jenner Headlands is the home of West County Hawk Watch, a group that has been collecting fall raptor migration data since 2010 when the property was first protected. The numbers of raptors have, at times, rivaled those seen at Hawk Hill in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Join Sonoma Land Trust staff as we hike the coastal prairie loop trail up to the Jenner Hawk Overlook. Larry Broderick will join us as a guide on the second half of the hike as we descend through the landscape and catch the birds on the wind. This is a 4.5-mile hike with 800 feet elevation gain on ground with uneven footing.

About the Jenner Headlands Preserve

Located north of the town of Jenner where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean, and extending two-and-a-half miles along Highway 1 and inland toward Cazadero, this 5,630-acre coastal treasure has it all -- rich habitat for fish and wildlife, dramatic views, extensive opportunities for future recreation and a spectacular segment of the California Coastal Trail. Acquired by Sonoma Land Trust in 2009, it was transferred as planned to The Wildlands Conservancy in 2013. Both organizations continue to co-manage the property.
